Gaston County Sheriff's department recruits its deputies by advertising on the local public access channel on television. It is categorized as a county position and not a city position. We are one of the few counties in North Carolina that have not combined the local city police departments and the county police departments. People who wish to get a job within the Gaston County Sheriffs Department must have at least a two year degree in criminal justice and pay is based on the degree.
